Otorize takes the silver!
Israeli start-up application Otorize wins second place in the 2018 Israel eBay StartUp Cup.
The Israel eBay StartUp Cup awards, which took place in Israel, were announced in December of 2018 and included sponsorship from Griffin Worx, eBay Foundation, Pearl Cohen, and the Peres Center for Peace and Innovation.
Winners of the prestigious competition received prizes of $10,000, $5,000, and $2,500 to fund their growing start-up.
For their silver medal win, Otorize won $5,000. In addition to the cash prize, the company received invaluable coaching and technological training from eBay’s top consultants.
Sponsored by the eBay Foundation, the eBay StartUp Cup is a business model competition offering mentorship and business training for underserved entrepreneurs. Qualifying applicants go through a 7-month acceleration program that empowers and enables them to succeed in the business world.
From the 50 companies that qualified to compete in the StartUp Cup, 26 promising candidates were selected to move onto the next round. These 26 start-up companies received expert mentorship and resources to build their businesses.
Eventually, the pool dwindled down from 26 companies to the top 12, where 7 finalists were selected for judging.
2018 was the first year that the eBay StartUp Cup was offered in Israel.
Hosted in Berlin, Brooklyn, Mumbai, and Washington D.C., the global eBay-sponsored competition attracts attention from self-starters looking to hone their skills in a professional business setting.
For the Israel eBay StartUp Cup, 30 qualified mentors were chosen to mentor the companies throughout the span of 7 months. Among the top 12 phase judges were eBay industry professionals Gadi Mikles and Reut Cohen Zede.
Winning second place, Otorize placed between first-place winner Conffit, an optimization system that links users and companies to trade shows, and third-place winner Plate my Meal, a producer of kid-sized portion-control plates.
